Faf Du Plessis Becomes Fourth-Oldest Captain In IPL History
The South African batter is leading Delhi Capitals in Axar Patel’s absence
In Axar Patel’s absence, Faf du Plessis is leading the Delhi Capitals, becoming the fourth-oldest captain to lead an Indian Premier League (IPL) team, on May 21 against the Mumbai Indians (Wednesday). The South African batter was named DC’s vice-captain ahead of the season and is leading the side for the first time in the campaign.
Unfortunately for DC, they are missing the three-dimensional Axar Patel and have replaced him in the setup with Madhav Tiwari. Tiwari made his IPL debut earlier against Punjab Kings (PBKS), but the clash wasn’t counted because it will be replayed later in the season.
However, du Plessis isn’t the oldest captain in IPL history, as MS Dhoni currently holds the record. Shane Warne is the oldest overseas captain in IPL history, having led Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the age of 41 years and 249 days.
It is a must-win game for DC as a loss from here will all but put them out of the IPL 2025 playoffs contention.
