Mumbai Indians (MI) did well in keeping Sunrisers Hyderabad's (SRH) explosive batting quiet. Abhishek Sharma (40) and Travis Head (28) put on 59 for the first wicket, but it took 45 deliveries. The MI bowlers, led by Deepak Chahar, Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah, bowled tight spells in the powerplay. Then, in the middle overs, Will Jacks did the damage to pick up a couple of wickets in quick succession.
MI captain Hardik Pandya acknowledged the efforts put in by his bowlers. "I think the way we bowled today was very smart and spot on. We stuck to simple, basic plans. Certain balls were not easy to hit. Credit to the bowlers, that we made them hit some good shots. We were kind of squeezing them," Pandya said at the post-match presentation.
"If you look at it, had a nice green grass look to it. The first couple of overs that Deepak bowled, a couple of balls got stuck in. We decided to use change of pace balls. As soon as we figured it out, we tried to mix it up. We executed the yorkers very smartly."
SRH skipper Pat Cummins agreed with Pandya, but insisted that 160 was never going to be enough.
"It wasn't the easiest wicket. Few runs short, we would have liked a couple more with the bat. Tricky wicket, when you come here you expect it to be really fluent and fast, just wasn't that. They bowled really well, shut down a lot of our hitting areas. I thought we had all our bases covered, with 160 you feel like you are a little bit short. We gave it a good crack with the ball," Cummins said.
With this win, MI move to seventh in the IPL 2025 points table with six points from seven matches. SRH, on the other hand, are in ninth place with just four points from seven matches.
