Punjab Kings (PBKS) may have lost the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Qualifier 1, but they are not out of the competition. As they finished top two in the points table, they have earned the right to have two chances of making it to the final.
Despite losing the match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), PBKS still have a chance to make it to the final. They will have to beat the winner of the Eliminator in Qualifier 2.
If they manage to do that, they will reach an IPL final for the first time in 11 years. If they do that and go on to win the final, they will be only the second team in IPL history to win the title after losing Qualifier 1.
Only the Mumbai Indians (MI) have achieved this feat and have done so twice - in 2013 and 2017.
In 2013, MI lost to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Qualifier 1 and then beat the same team in the final five days later. History repeated itself four years later as MI lost Qualifier 1 to Rising Pune Supergiant (RPSG), and then beat the same side in the final.
Will PBKS emulate MI this time?
