At 42, James Anderson shocked the world when he registered himself for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction. England’s Test legend put himself up at the auction for a base price of INR 1.25 crore, with a view to make his debut in the cash-rich league.
Unfortunately for Anderson, his last appearance in the T20 format was in 2014, when he played for Lancashire against Warwickshire. At the international level, the 42-year-old hasn’t played for England in the shortest format since 2009. After registering for the 2025 IPL, though, Anderson insisted that he has ‘more to give’ as a player even though he has retired internationally and is short of match practice in the shortest format.
"There is still definitely something in me that thinks like I can still play. I have never done the IPL; I have never experienced it, and I think for a number of reasons I feel like I have more to give as a player," Anderson told BBC Radio 4 Today in a podcast.
Since retiring from international cricket, Anderson has been travelling with the national team as a mentor.
"I have done a little bit of coaching since I have finished in the summer. I have been around the England team doing a bit of mentoring or whatever you like to call it," he said.
"I just think opening my eyes to something like that and experiencing it, sort of might help me grow my knowledge of the game and help further down the line," Anderson concluded.
If picked, it will be Anderson’s first-ever appearance in the IPL.
