All-rounder Karim Janat becomes the 10th player from Afghanistan to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He was handed his maiden IPL cap by his countryman Rashid Khan ahead of Gujarat Titans' game against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Jaipur on April 28 (Monday).
Janat is also the fourth Afghanistan player to represent Titans in IPL after Rashid, Noor Ahmad and Azmatullah Omarzai.
Janat is an experienced campaigner in the T20 format having already played 177 matches. He has scored 2,759 runs at a strike rate of 133.5 and with the ball, he has struck on 138 occasions and has conceded at 7.7 an over.
He was bought for INR 75 lakh by GT at the IPL 2025 mega auction. The 26-year-old has played 67 T20Is for Afghanistan, adding 691 runs at a strike rate of 115.93. His best bowling figures of 5/11 came against West Indies in Lucknow in 2019, which are also his best figures across T20s.
Janat has also previously been a part of International T20 (ILT20), Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Lanka Premier League (LPL) and the Afghanistan Premier League (APL).
The Titans are second in the IPL 2025 points table, and a win over RR today will take them back to the top.
