SRH were touted to breach the 300-run mark after their thumping start to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Rajasthan Royals, but three games and three losses later, the 2024 finalists find themselves at the very bottom of the table. Today, against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), they slipped to their third straight defeat of the season, and it was a painful one, as they lost by 80 runs, making it their worst-ever defeat in IPL history.
SRH got bowled out for 120 trying to chase 201, a target skipper Pat Cummins felt was ‘chaseable’ at the halfway mark of the game.
“We thought during the halfway mark that the total was gettable. It looked like a pretty good wicket. Left too many in the field and then fell well short in the end,” Cummins said at the post-match presentation.
Cummins reckoned that SRH dropped the ball big time in the first innings with some sloppy fielding. There was one drop catch, that of Angkrish Raghuvanshi, but there were a plethora of misfields which cost the side plenty of runs.
“A bit disappointed with our fielding. A couple of catches went down, and a few misfields that we have to tidy up. Overall bowling was not bad. They batted well towards the end,” the SRH skipper said.
Cummins, though, still continued to insist that his side are at their very best with the bat when they’re taking the bowling on, even though it’s been three consecutive no-shows with the bat in hand.
“Less than two weeks ago, we put on 280. Our batters are at our best taking it on, but you have to think about if you could take different options,” Cummins said.
SRH have two days off before taking on Gujarat Titans in Hyderabad on April 6 (Sunday).
