After scores of six and three in the first two matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Venkatesh Iyer finally came to the party as he slammed 60 off 29 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on April 3 (Thursday).
Iyer, who was bought at the auction for INR 23.75 crore, has now slammed three back-to-back fifties against SRH in the IPL.

Iyer played a huge role in taking his side's score to 200, scoring the bulk of his runs at the death. In fact, KKR have hit the most boundaries (14) in the death overs in IPL 2025.

13 vs PBKS, Indore, 2018
13 vs SRH, Kolkata, 2024

As a result, Iyer ended up playing one of his quickest knocks in the IPL.
208 vs GT, Ahmedabad, 2023
207 vs SRH, Kolkata, 2025
204 vs MI, Mumbai, 2023
200 vs MI, Kolkata, 2024

Iyer put on 91 off just 41 with Rinku Singh for the fifth wicket, which gave KKR some momentum after they had lost two quick wickets. He hit seven fours and three sixes during his destructive innings.
There would have been questions over his price tag had Iyer endured another failure. He is, after all, KKR's second most expensive player ever, after Mitchell Starc (INR 24.75 crore).
