IPL 2025: List Of Orange Cap Winners In the Indian Premier League
A look at every player who has finished as the highest run-getter of each IPL season
The Indian Premier League (IPL) has been witness to plenty of entertaining knocks. The upcoming edition too promises to be similar. Right from its inception, the IPL has handed out Orange Caps to players with the most runs in a season.
They are also often spotted in many matches, and according to the BCCI mandate, a player must have the orange or purple cap on for at least two overs in an innings.
Here are some interesting facts:
> Shaun Marsh was the first-ever player to win the orange cap, finishing with 616 runs in 2008
> Chris Gayle is the only batter to win the orange cap in back-to-back seasons (2011 and 2012)
> Other than Gayle, only two players - Virat Kohli and David Warner - have won the orange cap multiple times. Warner is the only batter, in fact, to win the orange cap three times.
> Sachin Tendulkar (2010) was the first Indian player to win the orange cap. Other Indians to have won the orange cap include Virat Kohli, Robin Uthappa, KL Rahul, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shubman Gill
> Only Robin Uthappa (KKR,2014) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (CSK, 2021) have done the double of winning the orange cap and the IPL.
> Virat Kohli holds the record for scoring the most runs in a single season - 973
