The much-awaited Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction is set to be held on November 30, according to a report on Times of India. The venue for the event is yet to be decided, but according to various reports, it is expected to be held outside India, with the UAE and Saudi Arabia likely to host the auction.
A franchise can retain as many as six players ahead of the auction. However, that will be reduced from their total purse of INR 120 crore. They can also retain the players during the auction via Right to Match (RTM).
As things stand, the auction will be squeezed between the first and second Tests against Australia. The first Test in Perth will conclude on November 26, and the second one in Adelaide will begin on December 6. It remains to be seen if the auction will be a one-day affair or trickle down to the second day as well.
All franchises have until October 31 to finalise their retentions. While announcing the rules for retentions, the BCCI also made it clear that overseas players who do not register for the mega auction will not be allowed to put their names forward for the next auction. Moreover, those who make themselves unavailable after being picked in the auction will be banned from participating in the IPL for two years.
The value of the first three retentions will be INR 18 crore, INR 14 crore, and INR 11 crore. The next two will be INR 18 crore and INR 14 crore. As a result, INR 75 crore will be deducted from the INR 120 crore of the overall purse. As far as the uncapped player is concerned, he can be retained at INR 4 crore. Hence, the franchise could lose as much as INR 79 crore before entering the auction and could be left with just INR 41 crore.
