Making his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut for Punjab Kings (PBKS) on April 1 (Tuesday), Nehal Wadhera smacked an unbeaten 43 off 25 deliveries and put on an unbeaten 67-run stand with his skipper Shreyas Iyer to take his side home against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Lucknow.
Wadhera praised head coach Ricky Ponting, saying he is one of the best coaches he has worked under, as he does not have anything negative to say.
“He [Ponting] is one of the best coaches I have ever worked under. I have never heard any negative talk from his mouth, and that’s the best thing about him. He just talks positive, and when a coach gives you such positive remarks, that automatically boosts your confidence," Wadhera said at the post-match presentation.
Wadhera also lauded Shreyas Iyer's leadership in the tournament. Iyer scored an unbeaten 52 off 30 against LSG. PBKS have made a perfect start to the tournament, winning their first two games.
“Shreyas bhai and everyone played really well; our bowlers bowled well, and the way Prabhsimran batted was really good, too," Wadhera said.
"The way Shreyas batted was remarkable. All credit goes to the way he is captaining us and also the way he is boosting our confidence. The way he told me to play my natural game and go with the flow of the game, it’s great."
PBKS will look to make it three in three when they take on Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Mullanpur on April 5 (Saturday).
