Abishek Porel, who has been in good form in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, was given out stumped against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on May 21 (Wednesday). The third umpire took a long time to come to a conclusion, but in the end, he ruled it in favour of the fielding team to give Will Jacks his first wicket.
With the ball turning and a left-hander on strike, Hardik Pandya handed the ball to off-spinner Jacks. Delhi Capitals (DC) were already struggling at 27/2 after four overs, in pursuit of 181.
Pandya got a slip in as soon as the first ball turned square, taking the outside edge. The next ball was pitched up and turned away from Porel, and Ryan Rickelton was quick to knock the bails over.
Here's where it gets controversial: Certain angles suggested that his foot was in the air when the bails were removed, while some showed that it was grounded. Usually, the benefit of the doubt goes to the batter, but on this occasion, the third umpire decided to side with the bowling team.
While there was not much protest from the batter, the dugout looked a little puzzled with the decision. However, the MI fielders were over the moon as they managed to pick up their third wicket in the powerplay.
