Punjab Kings (PBKS) have three bowlers who have 10 wickets or more in the Indian Premier League (IPL). They have often pulled things back during the tournament, including helping PBKS defend the lowest-ever target against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
PBKS assistant coach Brad Haddin believes that they deserve a lot of cricket, as they have dealt with the impact player rule well.
“Last year we saw some steep totals, and although that’s still the case at times, I think the bowlers deserve a lot of credit. They’ve done their homework, especially with the new 'Impact Player' rule, and it’s showing in their execution throughout the tournament,” he said, ahead of PBKS' clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
Haddin is particularly pleased with the way the youngsters have stepped up and delivered. “Our young guys are really starting to step up, and that’s been the most pleasing aspect so far. Of course, our senior players thrive in these high-pressure moments and will be key to winning games, but it’s the emerging talent that’s giving us real depth,” Haddin said.
Haddin has, however, cautioned his side against complacency and believes that PBKS need to be playing their best cricket now, which is the business end of the tournament, as the race for the playoffs heats up.
“For us, it's all about excitement. This is the time of the tournament when you want to be playing your best cricket. And if you look at our recent performances, we’ve been getting better with each game," Haddin said.
“We were really clinical with the bat in the last game [against CSK]. What we’re aiming for is steady improvement, especially as we approach the final stages of the tournament."
PBKS are currently fourth in the IPL 2025 points table, and a win against LSG will put them in a formidable position to finish in the top four.
