The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) has been called off due to security reasons. Initially, the incident was reported as a floodlight failure, but later on, it was said that the people in the stadium have been evacuated.
This comes after drone attacks in Jammu, some 200 kilometres away from Dharamsala.
It remains unclear as to whether the rest of the matches will go ahead as planned. Recently, the clash between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and PBKS was moved from Dharamsala to Ahmedabad.
It is the wake of the ongoing conflicts between India and Pakistan. On May 8 (Wednesday), there were reports of drone attacks in the India-Pakistan border regions- Amritsar, Jammu and Pathankot, among other cities.
According to reports, to ensure the safety of the players and everyone involved in the IPL, the BCCI will arrange a special train from Una to evacuate players, staff & broadcast crew tomorrow (May 9) from Dharamshala. The call on the future of IPL 2025 will also be taken tomorrow.
Many airports in the northern part of the country, including Amritsar, Chandigarh, and Srinagar, have been shut as well. Many airlines too have cancelled their flights, making travel difficult. The BCCI is yet to make an official announcement on this.
