IPL 2025: Punjab Kings to announce new captain on Bigg Boss show

In an innovative move, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) will announce their new captain for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season on television reality show Bigg Boss 18 on January 12 (Sunday). The show will be hosted by renowned Bollywood actor Salman Khan.
The announcement is expected to be made around 9.30 PM IST. Along with Shreyas Iyer, who is the favourite to take over as captain, the show will also have Shashank Singh and Yuzvendra Chahal featuring in it.
PBKS broke the bank for Shreyas, spending INR 26.75 crore to acquire his services. Chahal was bought for INR 18 crore, while Shashank was retained ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. Iyer led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to their first title in a decade last season. He was neither retained by the franchise nor did they use the RTM card on him at the auction.
Punjab finished ninth in IPL 2024, with five wins from 14 matches. They last qualified for the IPL playoffs in 2014, when they reached the final.
