As a result, SRH have just seven points in 11 games, and join Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings as the teams to be eliminated from the tournament so far.
However, DC still have a lot to fight for in the competition, and are currently in the fifth place on the points table with 13 points in 11 games. Their remaining three games in the competition are against Punjab Kings (PBKS), Gujarat Titans (GT) and Mumbai Indians (MI).
Two of these three teams are themselves looking to win their remaining games and ensure a top two qualification, and GT have already almost confirmed their top four finish with 14 points in 10 games. If DC lose to PBKS or GT, it would seriously jeopardise their qualification chances.
While DC’s recent form (three losses in last five games with one no result) is a concern, two of their three remaining games are away, where they have won three out of five games and lost just one, while one was a no result.
Let’s see the different scenarios for DC from here and where they can end on the points table.
Scenario 1: DC win all three remaining games
Points possible - 19
If this happens, DC will qualify for the playoffs and will be really well placed to end in the top two, as PBKS, MI, and GT also have games left against each other.
Scenario 2: DC win two of their three games
Points possible - 17
While DC will be really well placed to qualify for the playoffs if they reach 17 points, it’s not as safe as being on 19 points, as all four other teams above DC on the points table at the moment can reach 17 with ease.
They have a much lower net run rate of 0.362 as compared to MI (1.274) and GT (0.867), and as a result, would need at least 18 points to ensure a comfortable qualification in the top four.
Scenario 3: DC win just one of their three games
Points possible - 15
With 15 points, DC’s fate would be totally in the hands of other teams, and they would then hope that either MI or GT end up losing all their remaining games.
Scenario 4: DC win no games after this
Points possible - 13
DC won’t make it to the playoffs and will end their campaign on a really disappointing note as they surely looked like one of the top teams until the first half of the competition.
