After Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s losses, Punjab Kings had a wonderful opportunity against Delhi Capitals, on May 24 (Saturday), to seal themselves a place in the top two.
However, PBKS messed it up big time, with a six-wicket loss against DC, putting their top-two finish in huge jeopardy. So, is there a sliver of hope for PBKS fans?
Scenario 1:
– A win for PBKS against MI could push them above all of the competitors at the top of the table.
– PBKS will need two results to go their way: a) RCB must lose against LSG, and b) GT must beat CSK
If the two aforementioned results happen, then PBKS will finish in the top two alongside GT.
Scenario 2:
– Even in the second scenario, PBKS must win against MI
– But they will need two results to go their way: a) RCB win against LSG, and b) GT lose their clash against CSK on the penultimate day of the season
If the two results happen, PBKS and RCB will finish in the top two with 19 points apiece
Scenario 3:
– If PBKS lose against MI, they are out of contention for a top-two finish
– In that case, it will be a three-way battle between MI, GT and RCB, forcing PBKS to play the Eliminator
