Yuzvendra Chahal was the architect of the Punjab Kings' (PBKS) historic win over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 16 (Tuesday). The leg-spinner finished with figures of 4/28, which included the wickets of Ajinkya Rahane, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Rinku Singh and Ramandeep Singh.
After the match, an ecstatic PBKS head coach, Ricky Ponting, revealed that Chahal might have missed the match following the shoulder injury he sustained in the previous game. "What about Chahal tonight? How good a spell of bowling was that!" Ponting said.
"He actually had a fitness test before the game today with his shoulder injury he picked up in the last game, and I grabbed him out of the warm-up and looked him in the eye and said, 'Mate, are you okay?' He said coach I am 100 percent right, let me out there, yeah what a spell of bowling!"
PBKS won the tie by 16 runs, thereby defending the lowest total in Indian Premier League (IPL) history. "Wins like these are always the sweetest one, and if you can pull this off, then you should be as good a win as most guys been involved in and I have coached a lot of games in the IPL and that might just be about the best win I ever had," Ponting added.
PBKS have now won four games in a row and find themselves fourth in the IPL 2025 points table. They face Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) next on April 18 (Friday) in Bengaluru.
