Shreyas Iyer An Exceptional Captain, Underappreciated At KKR: Former IPL Winner

The PBKS skipper has ensured that his side will finish in the top two in IPL 2025

Shreyas Iyer has led Punjab Kings (PBKS) to the playoffs for the first time in over a decade. PBKS' latest win over five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) saw them confirm their place in the top two of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 points table, meaning they will have two chances of making it to the final on June 3.

Former India batter and an IPL winner Robin Uthappa believes that Iyer is an exceptional captain, but was underappreciated at Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) where he led the franchise to their first IPL title in 10 years. "Shreyas has always been an exceptional captain," Uthappa said on JioHotstar.

"You always sensed that he felt underappreciated at KKR despite adding value there. He moved to a franchise where not much had been achieved historically and then went on to win it for them. That says a lot about his leadership and belief."

PBKS are potentially two wins away from lifting their maiden IPL title. They last made the final in 2014, but ended up on the losing side, incidentally with Uthappa on the opposite side. The Iyer-led side will take on either Gujarat Titans (GT) or Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Qualifier 1 in Mullanpur on May 29 (Thursday).
