IPL 2025: Shreyas Iyer named new Punjab Kings captain

Shreyas Iyer was named as Punjab Kings (PBKS)’ new captain ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. The announcement was made on January 12 (Sunday) on the television reality show Bigg Boss. On the show, other PBKS members Yuzvendra Chahal and Shashank Singh were also present along with Iyer.
The announcement was made in the presence of Bollywood actor Salman Khan, who was the host of the special ‘Weekend Ka War’ episode.
Iyer, who was bought for a record price of INR 26.75 Cr during the IPL 2025 mega auction in November 2024, was the captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), who won IPL 2024.
Chahal, who played for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the previous three seasons of the richest cricket league, was bought at a price of INR 18 Cr by the team partly owned by Bollywood actor Preity Zinta. Shashank Singh, one of the finds of the IPL 2024 season, was retained by the Kings for a price of INR 5.5 Cr.
