Rajasthan Royals are in for some real worry as their skipper Sanju Samson underwent finger surgery on February 11 (Tuesday) and is suspected to take at least one month to recover. However, he is expected to be fit just in time to be able to lead the Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
The injury as reported by ESPNCricinfo, was picked by the Indian wicketkeeper-batter during the fifth and final T20I of the series against England, which was one to forget for Samson.
As a result of that injury, Samson missed the Ranji Trophy quarterfinal for Kerala against Jammu & Kashmir in Pune.
The 30-year-old could miss the semi-final and the final of the prestigious first-class tournament, if his team makes it. Kerala look certain to at least play the semi-final, after taking a crucial one-run lead in the first innings.
Samson, apart from not being in great form, was in the news for not being selected in India’s squad for the ODI series against England and the subsequent Champions Trophy. The biggest reason cited for his non-selection was his absence from the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25. He was absent because he couldn’t attend a Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) camp near Christmas.
