Former England captain Michael Vaughan had quite an interesting suggestion for the resumption of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, on May 9 (Friday). The right-handed batter reckoned that the BCCI should consider playing the remainder of the 2025 IPL season in the United Kingdom, where there are well over 20 international venues.
"I wonder if it's possible to finish the IPL in the UK. We have all the venues, and the Indian players can then stay on for the Test series. Just a thought?" Vaughan posted on X.
It won’t be the first time that IPL could move outside India, with the 2009 edition being the first to be played completely outside the country. In 2014, too, the first half of the cash-rich league was played in the United Arab Emirates, which since then has become a common destination for Indian cricket.
However, Vaughan’s idea could be tempting and enticing for the board, given that India play a five-match Test series in England later this June. Having IPL in England will not only ensure that the players will already be assembled in the country but also will be well accustomed to the conditions ahead of the five-match Test series.
As of now, there are 21 matches yet to be played in IPL 2025, and having it in England could well and truly be too good a prospect to turn down for the BCCI.
