IPL 2026 Auction Could Be Moved Overseas Again: Report

The auction is expected to be held in the middle of December

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction is once again set to move overseas, according to a report on Cricbuzz. The auction is proposed to be held in the middle of December, and given that it will be wedding and festival season in India, the BCCI is considering moving the event overseas, even though they were keen on hosting it in the country this time.

The last two auctions - 2024 (Dubai) and 2025 (Jeddah) - were also held overseas. The BCCI is expected to announce the dates and venue on or before November 15, which is also the last date for the teams to submit their retention list ahead of the auction.

There have been plenty of discussions over the possible trade of some high-profile players like Sanju Samson, who is believed to be in talks with Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

Rajasthan Royals' (RR) lead owner, who is currently in India to discuss the retention list, will have to make the call pertaining to the Sri Lankan duo of Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana. The duo were in the release list of previous head coach Rahul Dravid, but with Kumar Sangakkara now in charge, it will be interesting to see if he decides to retain his countrymen.

There are also reports about the future of Mohammed Shami with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). The Hyderabad franchise is reluctant to sell him despite interest from a few franchises. However, nothing has been finalised yet.
