IPL 2026: Rishabh Pant To Be Retained? LSG Owner Drops Massive Hint
The wicketkeeper-batter was bought at INR 27 crore last season, making him the most expensive player in IPL
Rishabh Pant was bought for INR 27 crore at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction, making him the most expensive player in the tournament's history. However, things did not go according to plan for the southpaw as Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) failed to qualify for the playoffs and Pant scored just 269 runs in 14 matches.
Each franchise is expected to turn in its retention list on or before November 15 (Saturday), and LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka has dropped a huge hint on social media, which all but confirms Pant isn't going anywhere.
He posted a photo of himself along with Pant, director of cricket Tom Moody, head coach Justin Langer, and bowling coach Bharat Arun, with whom he said is "planning the season ahead."
"IPL retention talks for @LucknowIPL are underway. Delighted to have @TomMoodyCricket on board, bringing immense experience and strategic insight. Great discussion with @RishabhPant17, Justin Langer, and Bharat Arun as we plan for the season ahead," Goenka wrote on X.
Once all teams announce their retentions, the BCCI will then announce the date for the IPL 2026 auction. Whether or not it will be held in India is yet to be confirmed.
