IPL 2026: Stoinis To DC? 3 Teams That Can Trade Marcus Stoinis
Stoinis, despite boasting of solid T20 numbers, might get released by their side Punjab Kings.
Marcus Stoinis is one of the best all-rounders going around the world, especially in the shortest format. He has been consistent in the Indian Premier League (IPL) over the years, scoring 2026 runs at an average of 28 and a strike rate of 144 in 109 matches. With the ball too, he has been more than decent with 44 wickets at an average of 32 and an economy rate of less than 10.
However, in the last season, the Australian picked only one wicket and scored 160 runs, not really performing to his potential, averaging 26 with the bat and no fifties to his name. In contrast, Mitchell Owen, an up-and-coming Australian spin-bowling all-rounder, has been making headlines in Major League Cricket (MLC) and even international cricket.
In such a scenario, Punjab Kings, the IPL franchise of both the players, might just retain Owen and choose to either trade Stoinis or release him altogether. Here are three teams that might go for the Perth-born fast bowling all-rounder.
Delhi Capitals
Delhi Capitals (DC) lack a quality all-rounder who could compliment the likes of Mitchell Starc and Mustafizur Rahman as pacers. Thus, Stoinis will fit that bill with his bowling and also work in tandem with the likes of Ashutosh Sharma and Axar Patel as a finisher, who can perform consistently.
Chennai Super Kings
The Chennai Super Kings (CSK)'s side needs one thing for sure and that is a good finisher. MS Dhoni is not the same and without him, the team would not be able to get someone to do the job. Stoinis, with his strike rate of 174.7 and average of 32.4 in overs 16-20, will be the best fit for CSK to strengthen their death overs batting.
Already part of the Texas Super Kings, CSK's sister franchise, it could be an easy transition for Stoinis.
Gujarat Titans
Gujarat Titans (GT)’s finishers- Shahrukh Khan, Rashid Khan, Rahul Tewatiya, all failed big time. They did not have a proper fast bowling all-rounder in their side. With Hardik Pandya and Azmat Omarzai gone, someone like Stoinis would be the best possible option for them to go for either in trade or in the IPL 2026 mini auction.
