25-year-old Jamie Smith’s stocks continue to rise, as the young wicketkeeper batter smashed a stroke-filled 34-ball 52 in the clash against Trent Rockets, on August 14 (Thursday). Tasked with opening the batting, Smith showed a great deal of attacking prowess, smashing two fours and four sixes.
It comes at the opportune time for the youngster, with many IPL scouts eyeing a wicketkeeper batter. The wicketkeeper started off his innings with an imperious strike over long-on region against the experienced David Willey for a massive six. Two balls later, he smashed another six, this time in the midwicket region.
The right-hander showed great prowess against spin as well, when he hit Rehan Ahmed for a six. Smith brought up his half-century against Sam Cook with a crunching four, his first half-century of the Hundred 2025.
Smith has an incredible record in the shortest format, with a strike rate of 142.2, hitting a boundary every 5.7 deliveries. Earlier in The Hundred 2025, the youngster batted in the middle-order, smashing a 14-ball 26 against Welsh Fire, clearing the fence twice.
With teams like KKR lacking a solid wicketkeeper batting option, Smith could soon hit the jackpot.
