The remaining nine league games of the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will now have an extra 120 minutes to finish the game in case of rain interruptions.
Moreover, with the league already having lost time due to the suspension during Operation Sindoor escalations, completing the entirety of the remaining games remain a commercial and cricketing responsibility of the BCCI.
As a result, the afternoon games can now start as late as 5:30 PM with the two-hour extra allowance, and the evening games by 9:30 PM. That means that the cut-off time for a minimum five-over game becomes 7:56 PM for an afternoon game, and 11:56 PM for an evening game.
The IPL governing council brought this change after the onset of monsoons in the country, which led to three games being abandoned and two being shortened.
The most recently abandoned game was the one between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Bengaluru. The next RCB game, on May 23, has now been shifted to Lucknow due to a yellow alert of heavy rains in Bengaluru this week.
The IPL also recently announced the venues for playoff games. Ahmedabad will host the Final and Qualifier 2, while Mullanpur will host Qualifier 1 and Eliminator.
