IPL Plan B Ready, South India Preferred To Host Remaining Games: Reports

The biggest hurdle to the plan could be the availability of overseas players, who are already on their way to their respective countries

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025’s remaining 16 games, including the playoffs, could be hosted in three South Indian cities of Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad, in case the IPL Governing Council and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) get a green signal from the central government.

“The IPL chose the three southern Indian cities as part of a likely plan in case it gets the nod from the Indian government to resume the tournament,” ESPNcricinfo wrote in a report.

However, since most of the overseas players have either already left the country or will be leaving by the next flight available, and all of them will be out of India by Saturday, it will be very hard to get them back in the country again in May itself.

Also, most of the franchises are anyway preparing themselves for the remaining part of the IPL to be hosted in the latter half of the year.

The IPL was suspended on May 9 (Friday) after tensions between India and Pakistan escalated and the match between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings on May 8 in Dharamsala had to be called-off abruptly, with 10.2 overs having been bowled in the first innings.
