The 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is underway at a sensitive time, when a combined effort from the Indian armed forces led to targeted missile strikes in nine different locations of Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK) and Punjab province of Pakistan.
However, the season is set to continue without any major disruptions, except in Dharamshala, where Mumbai Indians (MI) will have to change their travel plans for their game against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on May 11 due to shutting down of multiple airports and airspaces in North India because of their proximity to the Line of Control (LOC) between India and Pakistan.
Speaking to India Today, the IPL chairman, Arun Dhumal, informed that the tournament will continue to go on as the BCCI will adhere to the government guidelines.
“The IPL Governing Council is keeping an eye on the situation. There are a lot of speculative things going on; we cannot do anything about that,” Dhumal said.
“But whenever the time comes to take such a decision where it seems that something needs to be done in the country's interest, then the BCCI will stand in solidarity with the government and the nation."
The military retaliation, named as ‘Operation Sindoor’ by the Indian Army, came as a response in the early hours of May 7 to terror attacks in Pahalgam where 26 people, including one Nepali citizen, were profiled and killed.
As a precautionary measure, and also to monitor the movement of every single aircraft in the region, India shut down multiple airports in North India including Jodhpur and Rajkot airports.
Multiple airlines have already issued travel advisories and suspended flights to places like Chandigarh. While PBKS and Delhi Capitals are already in Dharamshala, MI are yet to reach, as their travel plans will now need to altered as per the situation on ground and in the air.
