The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 will get underway on March 21, confirmed Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Vice-President Rajiv Shukla on January 12 (Sunday). The final will be played on May 25.
His comments came after the Special General Meeting (SGM) of the BCCI executives. In the meeting, the new BCCI Secretary to replace Jay Shah was also named. Devajit Saikia of Assam Cricket Association will be BCCI’s new secretary.
The new treasurer of the board was also elected in the SGM where Chhattisgarh Cricket Association representative Prabhtej Singh Bhatia was given the responsibility.
The IPL opener will be played at the Eden Gardens, the home ground of defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), a report in Cricbuzz said. It was mentioned that runners-up Sunrisers Hyderabad’s home ground, the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Uppal, will get to host the two playoff matches
“Earlier, Rajeev Shukla had mistakenly announced the date as March 23, which he later corrected to March 21st,” India Today wrote in one of their reports.
The tournament was supposed to begin on March 14 but was delayed because of a delay in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which will end on March 9th.
