Indian Premier League (IPL)’s costliest-ever player - Rishabh Pant - flopped with a six-ball duck on his Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) against his former side, Delhi Capitals, on March 24 (Monday). It was Pant’s first duck in seven years, the last of which came against Kolkata Knight Riders back in 2018.
Ahead of IPL 2025, LSG’s owner, Sanjiv Goenka, predicted that Pant would become the best player in IPL history.
“My thinking was that time will prove that he’s not the only most expensive player in IPL but he’s going to be the best player in IPL. I have never seen a player with so much hunger and energy; he has a casual style of leadership; it is almost like the boy next door,” Goenka said in the Hotstar special.
However, as it turned out, Pant had a horrible outing in Vizag, with the left-hander struggling while Nicholas Pooran was blazing sixes for fun. Eventually, it was DC’s x-factor Kuldeep Yadav who had the last laugh, dismissing Pant, who holed out straight to the long-off fielder.
It was the third dismissal for Pant against Kuldeep, against whom he averages just 7.66, striking at 92.0.
