The Rest of India side found themselves in all sorts of trouble chasing 361 when they were stuttering at 64/4 in the 23rd over of the run chase, against Vidarbha in the Irani Cup 2025 (Sunday). But that’s where India’s former Under-19 captain Yash Dhull stepped up and left an indelible mark on the mind of the selectors who were present at the venue.
Dhull, who has had quite a solid last few months, continued his impressive run, smashing a stroke-filled 92 off 117 balls, an innings laced with eight fours and a six. Moreover, the right-hander formed a very impactful partnership with Manav Suthar, who too batted with great control.
During the 104-run partnership, Dhull took the attack to the opponents, finding boundaries with relative ease, smashing left-arm spinner Parth Rekhade for 31 runs off 34 balls, including hitting two fours and a six. Not just that, he was also quite aggressive against Yash Thakur, taking eight runs off the six balls he faced against him.
It was that boundary which riled up Thakur, who later bounced out Dhull. Dhull, who was eyeing his century, tried to take on the pacer over the third-man region only to find Atharva Taide in the deep. Taide had to run for a solid few metres before judging the ball to perfection.
In the aftermath of that dismissal, both Dhull and Thakur were involved in quite a heated altercation, which required the two on-field umpires to separate the duo. Despite the separation, the duo were seen going at each other, with the bowler Thakur sending the young Delhi batter back to the hut.
Dhull’s dismissal ultimately was a final nail in the coffin for Rest of India, who went on to lose by 93 runs.
