NEWSUnited States of America (USA) is set to host Ireland for a historic white-ball series, which will consist of two T20 Internationals (T20I) and three One-Day Internationals (ODI), starting December 22.
This is the first time a full-member nation will play against the United States on American soil. All five matches of the tour will be played at the Broward Regional Park Stadium, Florida. As part of the deal, Cricket Ireland have also included a reciprocal clause wherein USA will visit their shores in the next three years.
The tour will be just ahead of the ODI World Cup Super League Series against the West Indies in the Caribbean in January 2022. The schedule of the tour will be announced soon. The Ireland squad will take off from Dublin on December 16 and leave for the Caribbean on December 31 to prepare for the series against West Indies.
Speaking of the historic tour, Warren Deutrom, CEO of Cricket Ireland, said, “We are delighted to confirm the tour of the USA as part of our preparations for the crucial ICC Cricket World Cup Super League series against the West Indies. The chance to play five competitive white-ball fixtures – including three matches under lights – will be important as our players return to the field after a few weeks off.”
“The progress of USA Cricket has been commendable over recent years, and we hope that not only will this opportunity allow our players to build towards the World Cup Super League Series, but that our involvement may also be a boost for USA Cricket as they work hard to develop the game across the United States. We’d like to thank all at USA Cricket for putting together this opportunity," He added.
Iain Higgins, CEO, USA Cricket believes that the tour shows that their cricket team is heading in the right direction.
“This announcement also sends a signal to the international cricket community that cricket in the USA is moving in a very positive direction and that we have aspirations to compete against the best teams in the world on an increasingly regular basis on home soil."
