Is Dewald Brevis Joining MS Dhoni's CSK To Save Their IPL 2025 Campaign?
The 21-year-old from South Africa has put up a blank yellow post on his Instagram account
One of the most exciting upcoming talents, South Africa’s Dewald Brevis dropped a major hint suggesting he could be joining Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The 21-year-old posted a blank yellow post on his Instagram account.
With just two wins in seven games, the Super Kings are currently at the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table. When CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the competition, there were rumours suggesting that the franchise could go after Brevis, who went unsold in the IPL 2025 auction, but Chennai ultimately signed the 17-year-old Mumbai batter Ayush Mhatre.
Since breaking through in 2022, Brevis has drawn several parallels and comparisons to none other than de Villiers, earning himself the moniker ‘Baby AB’. Three years ago, CSK had a real chance of acquiring Brevis before the Mumbai Indians bought the middle-order batter for INR 3 crore. For the longest time, it was a missed opportunity, but now it could actually happen.

Since the start of this year, Brevis has been in top-notch form in T20s, smashing 291 runs across ten innings, averaging 48.5. But what makes the right-hander’s efforts more impressive is when you see the aggression that he brings to the table. The 21-year-old has consistently found boundaries for fun, striking at 184.2, scoring a boundary every 3.8 deliveries.
CSK have seven overseas players in their squad, meaning they do have a spot open for a foreign player, even if it’s an Indian player who is ruled out of the IPL 2025. There is no update on who that might be, but left-arm seamer Gurjapneet Singh is someone who hasn’t played any competitive cricket for more than four months.
There’s a possibility that Brevis’ post might not even be related to the IPL, considering he signed with Hampshire for the upcoming Vitality T20 Blast. The jersey colour of Hampshire Hawks is also yellow.
