If one were writing a book on Chennai Super Kings (CSK), it would be impossible not to mention MS Dhoni in the very first sentence.
As a matter of fact, MSD could very well be in the title of the book. You simply can’t talk about CSK without mentioning his name, and that’s one of the key reasons why he is still playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The wicketkeeper-batter is almost 44, and talks of his retirement have been going on for quite a few years. When he walked out for the toss for Match 49 of the IPL 2025 against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at Chepauk, Danny Morrison asked him if he would be back for the next season.
To which, MSD jokingly replied: “I don't even know if I'm coming for the next game.”
Dhoni is captaining CSK in the IPL 2025 after Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the tournament with an elbow injury. The right-hander has scored 140 runs across nine innings at an average of 28 and a strike rate of 142.85.
Dhoni hasn’t had much impact with the bat, but quite a few other CSK players have performed worse than him, which is why they are at the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table.
