Ishan Kishan, who was unable to secure an India call-up to replace the injured Rishabh Pant on the England tour in July, will now have to sit out the opening match of the Duleep Trophy 2025 against North Zone.
The decision was taken in coherence with his fitness requirements as he reportedly had stitches after he suffered a minor injury during his County stint with Nottinghamshire.
ESPNcricinfo, in a report, wrote, “Kishan required multiple stitches, and it's due to this that he wasn't considered as a replacement for the injured Rishabh Pant ahead of the fifth and final Test against England at The Oval.”
Aashirwad Swain of Orissa has replaced Kishan in the East Zone squad for the quarterfinal clash.
Apart from Kishan, India and Bengal speedster, Akash Deep has also been advised to rest for the game and was replaced by Mukhta Hussain of Assam. Akash Deep played three Tests for India on the England tour and picked up 13 wickets, including a 10-wicket match haul at Edgbaston.
Riyan Parag will serve as Abhimanyu Easwaran’s deputy in the side that includes Mohammed Shami and Mukesh Kumar as other India internationals.
The East Zone vs North Zone Quarterfinal in which India Test captain Shubman Gill will lead North, will begin on August 28 at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE) pitches in Bengaluru.
