Ishan Kishan had a strong start to the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, scoring a century in the opening match. His 106 off just 47 deliveries announced that he is going to have a remarkable season for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), who bought him for 11.25 crore in the mega auction.
However, that wasn’t the case, as he remained inconsistent throughout the season. After the centuries, his next four scores of 0, 2, 2, and 17 coincided with four losses for SRH. Overall, he could add only 354 runs in the 13 games.
While it’s unlikely SRH would let go of Kishan to fill in the holes in their bowling attack, it would be really interesting to see which team would go after Kishan in the auction. Here are the three IPL teams that would love to have him on their side:
With Quinton de Kock’s batting form going down recently and the batter not playing enough professional games in the format, Kishan can be a great choice for KKR as they lack a quality capped Indian player in their top order. Kishan would also sort out their keeper needs in case de Kock’s form is affected even more, or KKR let go of him.
Moreover, Ajinkya Rahane is also on the wrong side of 30, and while he has been doing quite good with the bat, young Kishan could be slotted in as a long term opener for the Kolkata-based franchise. He also has a huge fan following and a brand, which IPL teams always look in a player they wish to invest in.
CSK had an extremely poor season in 2025, and the main reason behind that was the lack of firepower in their top and middle order. The likes of Rahul Tripathi and Deepak Hooda failed to deliver, and the power-hitting levels of the likes of Vijay Shankar weren’t up to the standard IPL has reached in recent years.
In such a situation, CSK would absolutely love to have a young swashbuckling top-order batter like Kishan in their lineup who can come and change games just by his batting. Not to mention, with the uncertainty around Dhoni’s future in the league, another keeper-batter from Jharkhand isn’t a bad option to have in the playing XI, which already needs someone to come and smack the leather off the ball. All in all, Kishan would be a perfect fit in the CSK setup.
Like the two teams above, DC also lack a solid Indian top-order batter who can come and do the damage to the bowling. They only have KL Rahul and Abhishek Porel to do that currently, and that’s where someone like Kishan can easily be slotted in anywhere in the top order, with Faf du Plessis’s experience already there.
They have Axar Patel and Ashutosh Sharma in the middle and lower middle order to handle things, and that’s where they need more impetus from the top order so the batters below can come and do the finishing job, rather than doing the major lifting, which was the case for the majority of the 2025 season. Kishan will definitely strengthen DC’s side if he becomes a part of it.
