India and Delhi Capitals (DC) fast bowler Ishant Sharma has injured himself during training and is doubtful for his franchise’s opening fixture against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) on Sunday (September 20). However, his injury will be assessed and the final call will be taken before the game. "He did injure himself while training yesterday, but we will see how it goes. We will assess his injury status before the game and will take a call accordingly. We have the medical team which takes a final call on these matters," a DC support staff said, according to ANI

After an injury lay-off, Ishant returned to the Indian team in New Zealand earlier this year, but once again injured the same ankle that was giving him problems. However, he went through rehabilitation at the NCA and had recovered.

In the previous edition, the fast bowler on 13 occasions for DC, picking up as many wickets at an economy rate of 7.58. DC consequently retained him for the 2020 edition.

DC already have plenty of tear away bowlers like Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje at their disposal. Among the Indian contingent, the likes of Mohit Sharma, Avesh Khan and Harshal Patel could also come in handy if called upon.

The Shreyas Iyer-led side are yet to lift the IPL title but managed to reach the playoffs last season under the tutelage of Ricky Ponting.
