A bizarre and controversial incident occurred during the match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on May 3 when CSK batter Dewald Brevis wasn’t allowed to take a DRS review. The reason behind that was that the South African batter had already surpassed the 15-second window that is given to the batter.
Ultimately, it led to the CSK all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja tussling with the umpire Nitin Menon, who, only a few days ago, had allowed Rohit Sharma to take a review despite the timer buzzing off. Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag wasn’t pleased with Brevis, stating that it was the South African batter’s fault and not the umpire’s.
"Only Brevis can tell us why he didn't take the review in time. Why was he so late? It's Brevis' fault, not the umpire's. The timer is shown on the big screen. He ran for a single and then he went for the second. Don't you know that the umpire has given you out?" Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.
Sehwag also went on to add that Menon’s decision was a ‘blunder’, but even then added that the review was there for the batter to take.
"Okay, I understand it was a wrong decision. It was a blunder, it was missing the stump. The DRS is there to get rid of the howlers. As soon as the umpire gave his decision, the timer of 15 seconds started at the ground. It's okay, we didn't get to see that on the screen. Why did he take so much time?" he added.
