With scores of 0, 8, 13, 17, 18 and 26, there was a lot of pressure on 37-year-old Rohit Sharma to turn his form around. Such pressure often brings the best out of their key batter, as Rohit smashed a 45-ball 76 against five-time IPL champions, smashing ten boundaries, including six sixes, his joint-most in an IPL innings.
“After being here for such a long period of time, it's easy to start doubting yourself and start doing different things,” Rohit said in the post-match presentation.
“For me, it was important to do simple things and have a clear mindset. It is important, that's how we want to play and plan our innings. It was important for me to hold my shape and extend my arms, and when the ball was in my area, I had to do what I have been doing. It's something we spoke about, but 2-3 overs doesn't make a huge difference,” he added.
Like usual, Rohit has been MI’s impact player, with the right-hander coming out swinging. So, is it tough for an opener to be an impact player?
“You haven't fielded for 17 overs, that's the thought process, but I don't mind that if my team wants me to come straightaway and bat. Looks far away that stand, I enjoyed being out there, for me it's about staying out there and finishing the game, that's what gives me the most satisfaction,” he added.
“We are peaking at the right time, we have won three games in a row,” he concluded.
MI are peaking at the right time with three consecutive wins, after a lull start to the season, with four wins and eight points in the IPL 2025 season.
