At the end of day one of the Sydney Test, Sam Konstas and Jasprit Bumrah were involved in a heated argument. Bumrah wanted Usman Khawaja to get a move on, but the batter was delaying taking the strike to avoid an additional over, much to Bumrah's dismay.
The Indian pacer made it clear that he was not a fan of such antics, and that is when Konstas, at the non-striker's end, got into a war of words with Bumrah.
Looking back at that incident, 19-year-old Konstas admits that it was his fault, which riled Bumrah up further. The day ended with Bumrah removing Khawaja from the last ball. Bumrah and the entire Indian team then ran towards Konstas and celebrated right in front of him.
Recalling the incident, Konstas said, “Oh, I didn’t get too fazed.
“Unfortunately, Uzi got out. He was trying to buy some time a little bit. It was probably my fault, but it happens. It’s cricket. Credit to Bumrah. He got the wicket, but obviously great performance from the team."
It was the second incident that Konstas was involved in during the five-match Test series after Virat Kohli deliberately bumped into him between overs in Melbourne, for which the latter was fined 20% of his match fee. Australia ended up winning the series 3-1 and not just reclaimed the Border-Gavaskar Trophy but made it to yet another World Test Championship (WTC) final.
