It’s About Time We Start Doing Something: Phil Salt On RCB’s Poor Chinnaswamy Run

The Bengaluru-based side are yet to win a game at their home

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are enjoying a good start to the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) after winning four out of their six games. They are also third on the points table and have shown a lot of substance in both their batting and bowling attacks so far, something many RCB sides have failed to do in the past and have been rightly criticised for.

However, interestingly, they have won all their away games but lost the two games they played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium against Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans.

RCB have failed to create a fortress like some other IPL teams at their home ground, and even Dinesh Karthik, the team’s batting coach, has raised his reservations against the pitch. Incidentally, RCB lost both games after they batted first in the game, and that has brought the importance of the toss into the picture as well.

Speaking to Devdutt Padikkal for a video after a comprehensive win against RR in Jaipur, opening batter Phil Salt admitted that while results need to change at their home ground, they haven’t done much wrong in terms of preparation, and something needs to be done about RCB’s home record this season.

“Getting four wins now away from home, it really feels great,” Salt said.

“Hopefully, we can continue this at home as well. To be honest, it is about time we start doing something there as well.

It is a matter of time. I don’t think that we have done badly there. We train there more than anyone else, we play there more than anyone else—it’s a matter of time that we get it right and give fans something to cheer about.”

RCB’s next game is scheduled for April 18 against PBKS in Bengaluru
