Mayank Yadav hasn’t been at his normal best, bowling at lower speeds than what was expected of him during this season. People started doubting whether it was his injury that caused such a decrease in his speed. But Mayank alleviated any such concern, saying that he will eventually get back to his normal pace in some time.
“I had a major injury because of which I was out of cricket for five to six months. The body will adapt and take its own time. I will have to give some time to my body and my bowling to get those speeds back. There have been no changes in my bowling technique,” said the 22-year-old, as quoted by the Indian Express.

Mayank’s fastest ball this season has been a delivery at 142.7 kmph, which is slower than even his average speed in IPL 2024, which was 146 kmph. His average speed this season has been just 133 kmph.
So does this mean that Mayank changed his bowling strategy by any chance?
“There is no drastic change in my strategy. I will continue to do what I used to. My body is taking a little time. I have not seen the intensity (and) the match pressure for a while now. So it is very normal that the body is responding a little differently after a major injury ,” said the Delhi pacer.
“I don’t have a different mindset or intent. That remains the same. But I need to read the wickets and the batsmen quicker,” he added.
The claim to fame of this lanky speedster was his ability to naturally clock in 145-150-plus speeds regularly, which even got him a place in the Indian team.
Mayank was scheduled to play his third game of the season against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on May 9, but the match was postponed and so was the league for at least one week.
