I've always looked up to Warner: Mitchell Marsh

Mitchell Marsh's allround performance helped Delhi Capitals beat Rajasthan Royals by eight wickets

Delhi Capitals allrounder hailed compatriot David Warner following their commanding eight-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday at the DY Patil Stadium. Marsh (89 off 62 balls) and Warner (52 not out off 41 balls) added 144 runs for the second wicket as DC chased a target of 161 in 18.2 overs to go fifth in the table.

Marsh said that his friendship with Warner helps their batting on the pitch with Australia and DC.

"Chasing 160, you are only just one big partnership away from a win. Last 18 months, I have been enjoying batting with Davey and today we had a memorable one for the Delhi Capitals," Marsh said in the post-match press interaction.

"I've looked up to him for a long time and over the last few months I got to bat along with him. We have a great friendship which comes out during the games," he said of Warner, who has scored 427 runs from 10 innings in IPL 2022.

Marsh said that he has stayed confident of getting a big score for DC after starting well in the past few games.

"I feel I have been batting well in the last couple of games but was unable to get the big scores. Just making sure Im physically and mentally fresh. Hoping to put in more performances for Delhi," he said.

DC lost the wicket of KS Bharath with zero runs on the board as Marsh and Warner carefully navigated the powerplay to ensure no more wickets are lost. The Australian felt that it went according to the team's plans for the chase.

"The ball was swinging and nipping around. We assessed that we need to cut down the runs and make sure we are only one down in the powerplay. Lot of credit to them that they played exceptionally well to us," he said.

Ravichandran Ashwin was the top scorer for RR with 50 off 28 balls after walking in at No.3. However, they were unable to build on Ashwin's innings as they lost wickets in a flurry at the end.

Ashwin said that he has not been told to cut loose before the death overs.

"There is no license (to slog) given to me. It was made clear to me at the beginning of the season that ill be coming up the order. We had few practice games where I opened and enjoyed it. I have worked a lot on my batting and happy to see that it has translated on the field," he said.

Ashwin felt that the team had not switched off during the death overs where they lost four wickets for 39 runs and wished Shimron Hetmyer can return soon.

"There were no switch offs. Hetmyer has gone home for the birth of his child so Rassie came in for him. Hettie has been giving us the finishes and a finisher is always worth the weight in gold," he said.

Ashwin felt that RR were unlucky to lose the toss as the wicket had aided the bowlers.

"I feel the toss was crucial today because the wicket was a bit tacky today. Had we taken the catches, the game would've taken a different turn. But these things happen and the business end of the tournament is always pressure. Hope we can string in a couple wins," he said.
