Former India wicket-keeper batsman Deep Dasgupta suggested that all-rounder Jalaj Saxena should be the replacement of veteran India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, who has withdrawn his name from the upcoming IPL 2020 on Friday, (August 4).
“I think Jalaj Saxena deserves a place, he’s a good enough all-rounder. I think they might look at him, he’s a very good option for Bhajji’s replacement,” Dasgupta, who is a part of the IPL 2020 commentary panel, told ESPNCricinfo.
Harbhajan had announced on Twitter that he won’t be playing in this edition of the IPL, citing personal reasons for withdrawal. It was another shocking news for Chennai Super Kings fans after Suresh Raina had to return home due to a family emergency.
A right-hand batsman and off-break bowler, Saxena has taken 347 wickets in 123 matches in First-Class cricket for Kerala. Even in the T20s, he has picked 49 wickets in 54 matches at an economy rate of 6.92.
Harbhajan has played 160 matches in the IPL, taking 150 wickets at an average of 26.44. His best bowling figure has been five for 18.
