Veteran bowling all-rounder Jalaj Saxena has decided to call time on his stay in the Kerala setup for domestic cricket after spending nine seasons with the team. He had made his first-class debut for Madhya Pradesh way back in 2005-06, after which he moved to Kerala in the 2016-17 season and continued to represent them until the 2024-25 season, when they reached the final against Vidarbha.
Overall, the all-rounder scored 3153 runs for Kerala and picked 352 wickets across red and white ball cricket. His first-class record is even more stellar, as he scored 2252 runs and picked 269 wickets at an average of just 20.68, which included 23 five-wicket hauls. He is second on the list of most wickets for Kerala in first-class cricket after K Ananthapadmanabhan’s 310 wickets.
“It's never easy to put my feelings into words, but today I want to share something close to my heart," Saxena wrote on his Instagram post, announcing the move from Kerala.
"I have played my last game in Kerala colours, and that thought still feels surreal. Saying this brings a strange mix of emotions - gratitude, pride and a little ache. Over the years, this team has given me more than just cricket. It gave me brothers, friends and a family that stood by me through every high and low.
I've given blood, sweat, and tears - everything I had - for this journey, and in return, it gave me memories and bonds that will last a lifetime. To each and every teammate - thank you for making the dressing room a place of laughter, learning, and unforgettable memories. To the KCA, coaches, support staff, and the unsung heroes - the groundsmen who work tirelessly so we can have our game - my deepest respect and gratitude. None of this journey would have been possible without your support," he said.
Saxena did not mention which team he plans to move to after leaving Kerala; however, he clarified that "this is not a goodbye." It will now be interesting to see which team Saxena plays for in the upcoming season.
