Ahead of the third Test in Leeds, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), on Wednesday, confirmed the Test debut for 28-year-old pacer Jamie Overton. Overton will replace the veteran James Anderson in the playing XI, with Anderson being ruled out with an ankle injury.
England skipper, Ben Stokes confirmed the news earlier in the day, with England leading the series 2-0 against the World Champions, New Zealand. Overton, the twin-brother of Craig Overton, will represent the Three Lions for the first time, having made over 80 First-Class appearances.
"Unfortunately Jimmy's not pulled up as much as we'd like to so Jamie Overton is going to make his debut this week," Stokes confirmed during his pre-match press conference.
"I'm not too sure how serious it is to be honest. He's just got a bit of a puffy ankle. Jamie's (Overton) been very impressive, the way that he's bowled. We always want a point of difference in our side, bowling with serious pace and changing games as well."
The right-arm pace bowler over his 82 FC appearances, picked up 206 wickets, averaging 30.2. In his last FC game, the right-arm pacer ended the match with figures of 3/34 and 2/56 across the two innings with contribution of 20 and an unbeaten 7 with the bat.
