Jamie Smith’s climb as England’s best wicketkeeper continued, as the right-hander constructed yet another half-century against India, on July 6 (Sunday) in Birmingham. The right-hander was England’s best batter in the first innings too, when he smashed a counter-attacking 184 off just 207 balls.
On that occasion, Smith walked in to bat, with England’s back against the wall on 84/5. But by the time the innings was done, the right-hander had already done enough damage, registering the best score for an English wicketkeeper in Tests.
Smith returned for a second dig in the second innings, with his fifth half-century, and this time, even more important than his previous attempt. In the process, the youngster made English history, becoming the wicketkeeper with the most runs in a Test match.
