In what has come as a blow for New Zealand, Kyle Jamieson has been ruled out of the remainder of the game with "sharp pain" in his lower left back and will now undergo an MRI scan to determine the extent of the injury. Jamieson was impactless in the second game and conceded four runs per over in a wicketless spell. This was the first time Jamieson has suffered any big injury, having been New Zealand's most consistent pacer since his debut against India in early 2020.
The No.3-ranked bowler in the ICC men's Test bowling rankings, Jamieson has 72 Test wickets in 15 matches and averages 18.54 in his Test career. The kind of impact he has had over the last seasons will be telling when New Zealand will have to contain the home side on the final day of the second Test in Trent Bridge.
If Jamieson doesn't get fit for the final Test, in all probability, Neil Wagner will make it to the playing XI but that will be a big blow for the side, who currently doesn't have the services of their skipper Kane Williamson, who is recovering from a bout of Covid-19.
On Day 4 of the second Test between England and New Zealand, the visitors collapsed to 224-7 to give England a chance to chase a dramatic series victory. The Kiwis lost five wickets for 110 in a tense evening session at Trent Bridge and head into the final day with a lead of 238. With three wickets left, New Zealand face a difficult period on Tuesday morning as they try to bat their way to safety.
