Jason Roy is an injection of energy in the SRH side: Kane Williamson

The England opener slammed 60 off 42 deliveries to help his side to a comfortable victory

Jason Roy replaced David Warner in Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) XI and he made an immediate impact against Rajasthan Royals (RR), Slamming 60 off 42 deliveries to help his side to a comfortable seven-wicket victory in Dubai. While SRH may not make into the top four, they have certainly made it a little more difficult for RR to get there.

SRH captain Kane Williamson was all praise for Roy in the post-match presentation, calling him an injection of energy into the SRH side.  "Roy is an injection of energy. He's been on the sidelines but was always ready to go. He did what he does, great to see. Fantastic player, great contribution," Williamson said.

"We want to recover before the next game. Couple of days away, new venue, need to take on CSK, top of the table, tough to beat. But as we know every team in this tournament is good. Hopefully we can play with a smile on our faces," he added.

Speaking of the match, Williamson said Sanju Samson batted well, but praised his side for pulling things back.  "Want to build on this (win), want to see the younger players take their opportunity and enjoy the cricket. Last two overs with the ball were critical," Williamson, who remained unbeaten on 51 off 41 said.

"Sanju batted outstanding and they were looking to score more but we managed to close them into a par-ish total. And then the partnership with the bat up top. We weathered the storms against the slower bowlers," he further added.

Player of the match Roy was pleased to get this opportunity and help his side get over the line.

"Makes me extremely happy. Really grateful for the opportunity from Sunrisers. Have been training, and waiting hard. Grateful for this award too - we had some great performances today. Happy to get over the line. I had to kind of access different areas. Wasn't as free-flowing the way I hope. It was a case of getting the team close to the total," Roy said

"Saha was instrumental in that partnership. Allowed me to relax early on. We've got to keep our feet very grounded. We've had a tough tournament, but to come out today to chase a decent total was hugely impressive. We need to do the basics all over again," he added.

After losing five games in a row, SRH have pulled one back and will look to add to their tally, when they take on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) next in Sharjah on Thursday (September 30).
