Jasprit Bumrah, on December 29 (Sunday), became the first bowler in the history of Test cricket to get to 200 wickets with an average of less than 20. He broke former West Indies paceman Joel Garner's record, who got to the landmark with an average of 20.34.
The ace paceman from India dismissed Travis Head in the second session of day four of the fourth Border-Gavaskar Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Bumrah had Head caught at short mid-wicket and etched his name in the history book.
It has taken him 44 Tests to get to the 200-wicket mark, with recently-retired R Ashwin being the only Indian to get there in fewer games (37 Tests). Ravindra Jadeja, too, got to his 200th Test wicket in his 44th game.
In terms of balls bowled, Bumrah (8484 deliveries) is the fourth-quickest in the history of Test cricket after Waqar Younis (7725), Dale Steyn (7848) and Kagiso Rabada (8153).
Bumrah didn't stop there and got rid of Mitchell Marsh and Alex Carey in his next 10 deliveries to completely dismantle Australia's batting line-up. Bumrah now also has the most wickets for India against Australia in Australia in international cricket - 75.
Bumrah has now claimed 29 wickets @ 12.28 in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which is also the most for an Indian pacer in a Test series in Australia.
